When we moved here almost ten years ago from Texas, we embarked on
a campaign to fill our farm with fruit trees and plants. Over the years, as they
have grown, there was the need to use pruners. Just to nip off a branch that
was too long, or an undesired sprout. After much use of pruning
shears, my hands began to develop soreness. Was it arthritis? No, I don't
think so, but if changes weren't made, I could develop arthritic hands.
That's when I went looking into the best pruning shears for arthritic hands,
and to see how they might alleviate some of the soreness. I also asked
folks who do similar work, who might suffer from arthritis, and asked to see
if there were any pruners that they would recommend.
The best pruners that they suggested were ARS, Felco, and Fiskars. I actually have
Fiskars pruners, that have the ratcheting action, so that brute force isn't as
necessary. But after a few years of use, I noticed they didn't cut as clean as
before, and would no longer lock into place.
So at the recommendation from my fruit growing friends, I think I need to
do more research for the best pruners for arthritic hands. Please stay tuned
as I do a review of these tools.
